PartnerAreas of PracticeRichard’s main area of practice is commercial property. This ranges from straightforward acquisitions and disposals to complex site assembly projects, including ancillary funding work. His property work also includes acting for landlords and tenants on lease grants, renewals and associated licence work. Property types include offices, retail and industrial units, hotels, restaurants, brownfield sites and greenfield sites.Richard also handles general business instructions, including company and commercial law, partnerships, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions. BackgroundRichard trained with City based Hill Dickinson & Co and was formerly a partner with Solomon Taylor & Shaw. He is a qualified legal practitioner in New South Wales. After spending three years in Australia, he returned to London and founded Clegg & Co in 1998. After two years as a sole practitioner, he formed Clegg Manuel with Simon Manuel in 2000.PersonalRichard enjoys travel, including the somewhat pampered pleasure of transatlantic liner crossings (his long acquaintanceship with a Titanic survivor has sparked an interest in ocean travel, but in preferably iceberg-free zones) and the more down to earth tramping around the ancient sites of lost civilisations, particularly around the Middle East. At home, he dabbles in music as a part time church organist and strictly amateur pianist and choir member. Reading (20th century history is a particular interest), cooking and wine appreciation rank highly amongst his other interests. That and trying to keep alive a Venus Fly Trap.
